TV News report

In the public interest please pass this on to your contacts and ask them to do the same.

SO MUCH IS AT STAKE - jobs, industries, recreational enjoyment, tourism - and importantly - our Australian way of life and sense of fair play. We ask:

(a) As a voter, do you expect to be told the truth?

(b) If a politician misled you, would you vote for them?

Greens Leader Bob Brown has made many statements that are erroneous and have been discredited by experts:

1. "we have lost 90% of the great fishes - Marlin, Tuna, Snapper"

2. "marine protected areas are the nurseries for the future fisheries"

3. "fish stocks have fallen dramatically"

Click here to listen to ABC ask the question - Brown avoids it
- his response is 'there is debate about that' - what debate Bob?
- there is no debate at all
- this was flawed science!
Tell the people the facts!

Statement # 1. - based on flawed science
Brown is quoting research that has been discredited not once, but seven times. Either he finds it convenient to refer to flawed science or he is ignorant of the facts.

Statement # 2. - school students know the facts, Bob Brown is confused
Marine biologists disagree with Bob Brown. The Greens don't seem to know a lot about fish nurseries. Click here to read about the real nursery concerns expressed by Marine Biologist Dr. Ben Diggles. Most juvenile fish seek protection in estuaries or inshore reefs. They are not seeking respite from the imaginary onslaught by blood-thirsty fishermen, but from natural predators that account for well in excess of 90 per cent of all juveniles. Juveniles are a vital part of the food chain, which is why fish spawn great numbers of off-spring - ask any marine biologist.  If Brown has made a mistake on something this basic, what other misinformation is he feeding voters?

Statement #3. - reality check - the facts do not support Bob Brown's spin
• best Marlin season off Cairns in living memory
• best Tuna catch ever off NSW
• best prawn catches for years off Gold Coast
• best prawn catches for years Mooloolaba
• best prawn catches for years Tin Can Bay

- so where is the evidence of this dramatic fall in fish stocks in Australia.  We already have the most effective fisheries' management in the world.

Imported frozen or fresh seafood?
Don't be fooled - the Green Labor push threatens the availability of our fresh healthy seafood. We are already importing far too much - it is a disgrace that these policies will ruin our fishing industry and then we will have to rely on imported inferior seafood.

Tuna fishermen speaks

Thousands fear for their future
It is an insult to our intelligence that the leader of a political party in Australia can make these erroneous statements. It is also of great concern that some sections of the media appears disinterested in the real truth.

Prawner speaks

This is causing anxiety for tens of thousands of people who rely upon fishing, boatbuilding, bait and tackle and all of the other related industries (from corner stores to hotels and tourism).

Marine Parks have never been supported by sound science and in fact, leading scientists state that they are unnecessary - a hypothetical solution to an imaginary problem.

Prof Ray Hilborn

World experts disagree with the Greens/Labor plan
The promotion of massive areas of marine parks in the absence of any credible science or identified benefits is mind-boggling. It will cause further massive job losses and lock away for all times a vital source of healthy Australian food.

Top scientist explains

Australian Fishing Trade Association reacts
Normally politically neutral, this association has taken a political position for the first time and this week has placed advertisements in every major newspaper in Australia. They understand the enormous problems these policies will cause for all Australians and have asked for voters "not to vote for the Greens or their Labor mates"

Bruce Alvey speaks

Labor panics at fishermen backlash
In a press release 16 August 2010, The Labor Party is now admitting the Greens policy is not based on science.
"Federal Labor does not support the Greens' calls for arbitrary targets which do not reflect the science" - but it is too late - they have exchanged preferences so they have tied themselves together.

Dave Nuggett Downie speaks

Click here to hear Rex Hunt speak to Alan Jones about marine parks - don't miss this!

Marine parks over massive areas are detrimental to the well-being of all Australians.
It is simply un-Australian and represents an attack on a lifestyle that has been our tradition and a healthy family activity for hundreds of years.

On 21st August make your vote count and stop this ill-conceived policy of the Greens and Labor.

We believe in truth and honesty - we condemn politicians who attempt to "spin" their way into office by misleading voters for their own self serving political gain.

General Manager of Markwell Fisheries Tweed Heads speaks

Dr. Starck states in this video that closing down fisheries is the most environmentally irresponsible thing that we can do - click on the link below to hear him explain.

Marine biologist Dr Walter Starck

We are a political party that supports responsible environmental and sustainable practices. Please consider this when you cast your vote for the Senate.

We are a small party but we are putting in a big effort.

We don't have the financial resources of the major parties or even the Greens so we could do with some help on election day to hand out some how to vote cards.

Keith Douglas needs help on election day with people who can hand out some how to vote cards.
