On one side we have Australians who enjoy throwing a line in, others who fish for a living to feed their children or pay their mortgage as their fathers and their fathers have done or the Aussies who just want to continue to enjoy fresh Australian seafood, the best there is and world's apart from catfish from the Mekong Delta.
Then on the other side there are those who believe that Marine Parks bring a whole lot of benefits for the environment and are happy to support shutting down and closing up half of the oceans around Australia. Their leader, Bob Brown told the Australian public during the last federal election that "90% of the big fishes had gone but he was wrong and this was pointed out to him, he failed to put the record straight. He can run but he can't hide this time - Australians deserve the truth.
The last time that Joe Obono from the Greens wanted to speak, he was not permitted by the rally organiser and that was wrong too. Now he can speak in front of the Sixty Minute cameras.
We will be there to explain to him how the Green movement has got this one wrong, how the leading scientists do not support their policies and to let the Australian people know that they have to stand up to governments that want to restrict people's rights and threaten a vital part of our economy.
There is a lot at stake. Come and support the speakers who will be there to fight to preserve our rights.

This is where the fish nurseries
are - inshore areas and this is where the effort must be to look after
the marine environment. A council contractor caused this at Beechmere
in November 2009. The Greens No Take
zones and marine park proposals would not have helped this fish
population. The biggest threats to our fish are water quality,
pollution, pest introduction - not fishermen.

Cairns Tuna fishermen asked for his view on Bob Brown's comments on the
Cairns wharf early in the morning on 5th August

Two Senate
candidates will contest the 2010 Federal election on behalf of the
Australian Fishing and Lifestyle Party - Keith Douglas from the Gold
Coast and Dr. Michael Mansfield from Cairns
- real people with real solutions and the
courage to stand up for what is right.
Check the map for the vast sections of waters off the Australian coastline that have been proposed for CLOSURE to commercial and recreational fishing.... If enacted, these closed and restricted zones would result in the absolute gutting of what's left of the domestic seafood industry - and deny recreational fishing folk access to MORE THAN HALF of our coastal waters.
The Labor Commonwealth government, desperate as it is to appease the Greens for cheap political gain, has commissioned an outfit with the unlikely name of 'Maximus Solutions', aided and abetted by a couple of academics at the Australian National University, to study the impact of the proposed closures.
In
simple summary - the 'Maximus Solutions Displacement Document' RECOMMENDS:
- CLOSURE of or SEVERELY RESTRICTED fishing access
to 56% of our coastal waters.
- NO COMPENSATION to employees of commercial fishing operations or
land based marine industries. Workers who lose jobs as a consequence
of the closures can go on the dole - or seek unpaid re-training in
some other field!
- NO automatic compensation for businesses sent bust by the closures.
'Maximus Solutions' and their green cronies acknowledge that commercial fishing operators MAY seek compensation, but remind the government that they are under no obligation to pay it. It's an outright disgrace that consultants to the government can have the unmitigated gall to deem that "employees can go on the dole".
Their
lack of concern for the fates of hundreds, perhaps thousands of hardworking
fishing industry workers is appalling - and all too typical of the
enviro-nazis that are effectively controlling the Labor government's
agenda.
'Maximus Solutions' and their academic partners-in-crime are determined
to trash not just your right to fish - but equally your right to work!

Dr. Michael Mansfield is a leading orthopaedic surgeon in Cairns where he was born and raised.
With Les Faithfull, he co-founded the Trinity Bay and Inlet Society in the 1980’s, and put the case for sustainable community interaction and conservation of the Trinity Bay ecosystem.
Dr. Mansfield is concerned that with no scientific basis, and a religious fervour, this Green philosophy is denying us access to our rightful use of our ecosystems.
"We are being regulated out of our recreational access to our seas, rivers, and the bush. On an economic level, our industries and productivity are being destroyed and replaced by an ever-burgeoning bureaucracy, a process that threatens our national lifestyle and economic security."

EXTRACT FROM SUMMARY OF DIGSFISH REPORT FOR MARINE QUEENSLAND
DigsFish
Services was commissioned by Marine Queensland to undertake a review
of the literature used by the Federal Department of Environment, Water,
Heritage and the Arts (DEWHA) in support of the declaration of the
Coral Sea Conservation Zone. This was done to better inform Marine
Queensland of the content and quality of the literature used. Correspondence
from DEWHA (see Appendix 1) indicated that the studies they used included
Worm et al. (2005) Science 309: 1365-1369 and a press release that
accompanied that paper, Brewer et al. (2007) Ecosystems of the East
Marine Region, and Chin et al. (2008) Status of the Coral Reefs of
Australia and Papua New Guinea.
Worm et al. (2005) modelled global Japanese longline data to deduce patterns
of diversity of tuna and billfish around the world. They suggested that
diversity of tuna and billfish caught by longliners had decreased in
all oceans since 1950. DEWHA also cited a press release from Seaweb.org
that described Worm et al. (2005) as a “sequel to their groundbreaking
study in Nature in 2003”. This earlier paper (Meyers and Worm 2003) was
discredited in the scientific literature and widely
criticised as grossly
misrepresenting the true situation regarding the status of large pelagic
fishes in open ocean ecosystems. Because Worm et al. (2005) used similar
methodology to Meyers and Worm (2003), it should not be considered an
accurate indicator of pelagic fish biodiversity for the same reasons,
namely because it is well known the Japanese longline data is biased due to many factors, including the way longline data is recorded, the
selective nature of longline fishing, and variables such as changes in
fish behaviour, and fishermen trying to maximize economic returns. Other
more recent studies using several data sets have shown there is in fact
no evidence for a loss of pelagic fish biodiversity in open ocean pelagic
ecosystems. It is notable that the Pew Charitable Trust environmental
group contributed funding for both the Meyers and Worm (2003) and Worm
et al. (2005) papers.
The press release of Seaweb.org (2005) supplied
by DEWHA was not peer reviewed and portrayed several oversimplifications of the results of the Worm et al. 2005 study in a sensationalist manner
in order to attract headlines and media attention. Eminent fisheries
scientists have noted similar problems with the sensationalist press
release by Seaweb.org (2003) that oversimplified and distorted the results
from the earlier discredited paper by Meyer and Worm (2003). Seaweb.org
is an international nongovernment organisation established in 1996 to
advance ocean conservation, and the Pew Charitable Trust is one of several
private foundations who funds Seaweb.org activities. DEWHA have therefore
indicated that during the process of declaration of the Coral Sea Conservation
Zone, they cited a scientific paper and press release that were produced
using funding from several environmental groups, notably the Pew Charitable
Trust, using a methodology that has been widely discredited in the scientific
literature by several independent fisheries authorities from around the
world.

The Greens policies are not just a concern to people on the water - they have been a concern to people in the mountains too - the Greens' policies are turning out to be a concern to the lifestyle of many Australians.
The Greens are blind to the side effects of their narrow thinking in their pursuit of power without care for the people who get pushed aside, disadvantaged and even pushed out of work as they follow their idealist agendas.
The
Greens need to start looking at the big picture.
