Fishing for votes
All the indications are that the Australian Greens will hold the balance of power in the Senate after the August 21 election. Latest opinion polling shows them with 12 per cent support but, in their understandable excitement. they should not presume to speak for 100 per cent of the people. They are set to take on enormous power, which must be wielded responsibly and not used to parlav sectional interests into national policy.

What about the Greens plan to tighten fishing restrictions?
It sucks. I normally vote Labor but if the Greens look like getting the balance of power, I will change my vote. I enjoy fishing after work, it’s a lifestyle. I don’t believe recreational fishers so as much harm as they claim. I will be changing my vote.

Make your vote count
Well, another federal election is upon us and I'm feeling, threatened. It's almost a case of whatever party wins, our lifestyle still suffers. That's not a good place to be. I'm not going to tell you where your House of Representatives vote should go, but the Senate is much more critical. A vote for the Australian Fishing and Lifestyle Party would be my recommendation.

Editorial - Abbott has shown he is listening
Tony Abbott, on the other hand, in announcing that if elected he will place a moratorium on the creation of new marine parks and subsequent fishing bans off the Queensland coast until there is proper consultation is showing that he is listening to the electorate and not afraid to respond decisively. LIFE is full of compromises but it seems the Federal Government and greenies don't know what the word means. We make compromises every day in all aspects of our lives. It's the only way to be fair and equitable. But when it comes to areas such as the Coral Sea it appears the Government and environmentalists want them locked up from fishermen, charter boat operators, ships and just about everyone for good.
